"Freedom Songs: The Music of the Civil Rights Movement"
will be airing throughout the country this early June on your
local PBS station.
Here is a synopsis of the film:
"For a brief moment in time, a few daring, innovative musicians
stood at the crossroads of a revolution in music and culture.
Across one of the most turbulent periods in American history-
from the early civil rights era to Watergate - they brought music,
medium and message together as never before, composing a
soundtrack perfectly tuned to the tempo and pulse of its time.
They were America's rhythm rebels, and the spirit of what they
created then lives on today. From Mahalia Jackson and Aretha
Franklin to Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan,
Pete Seeger and Stevie Wonder, this program documents how
a few daring musical innovators stood at the vortex of two
revolutions - one cultural, the other musical - and forever changed
America and the world."

Ricky Speaks Out About Our President Obama At The Grammys
Asked how the five-time Grammy winners Blind Boys of Alabama felt
about the election of the first black president without being able to
see him, Ricky McKinnie said, "The Blind Boys may have lost their
sight, but we haven't lost direction ... I don't think about it as
just having an African-American president. Mr. Obama is qualified to
do the job. A lot of times we weren't the choice, but we had the
ability. We're glad that he has an opportunity to serve the country."
The winners of best traditional gospel album for "Down in New Orleans"
